Here’s a great beginner river for kayaking. Put in at Mission Dam on the Hiwassee River in Hayesville, NC and take out at the Wells Bridge River access in Murphy, NC. It’s approx. 4.6 river miles. There are a couple Class 2 rapids, but the rest is mostly flat water. Make sure to wear your PFD. Also be sure to stop at the confluence of the Hiwassee River & Brasstown Creek, or you’ll miss the petroglyphs!
