In other words, the vehicle can peek around cover in an urban environment, such as around corners, over embankments, etc., presenting only weaponry or armor to an enemy for a brief firing window, not the entire vehicle.

How do you justify giant mechs in a realistic setting?
Now, its good to identify which mechs were talking about. Western Mechs (MechWarrior, Battletech, etc) or Japanese Mechs (Gundam, Titanfall, etc.) Main difference being that Western Mechs are usually more realistic and are most like walkers from star wars. Japanese Mechs are more humanoid and are basically giant robot soldiers.
