Organised by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the postponed 2020 championship sees the reigning world champion, Magnus Carlsen of Norway, defend his title against the winner of the Candidates Tournament, Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi.

A strong brand for the World Championship match will benefit FIDE in general, and chess as a whole.
