May 26, 2017 · By March 1877 special trains ran from Riccarton Junction to take worshippers to the church and chapel at Newcastleton; on alternate Sundays these trains called at Steele Road. This practice was continued by the LNER who made no charge for their church trains.

Steele Road (1862-1969) Opened on the Border Union Railway (North British Railway). This was a two platform station on the 'The Steele', the southern slopes of Arnton Fell. The small village here was entirely associated with the station. The platforms were in brick with the main station building on the northbound platform.

In returning he waited until a goods train going towards Hawick had passed and in attempting to cross the line was knocked down by a pilot engine going in the opposite direction. He was fatally injured.
