The flag of the Kingdom of Saxony (1815–1918), the Free State of Saxony (Weimar Republic (1918–1925), and reunified Germany (since 1991)

The creation of the Kingdom of Saxony caused new flags to be ordered in November 1807. The new flags were not presented until July 1811, after the army had been reorganised and the 2nd, 6th, 9th and 10th regiments had been disbanded.

Saxony fought in the War of the Fourth Coalition in 1806 initially on the side of Prussia. In the battles of Saalfeld and Jena–Auerstedt, the Saxon and Prussian armies were heavily defeated. After these defeats the French occupied Saxony.

Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach was a grand duchy in the German Empire until 1918. The country used a black, yellow and green striped flag from 1897.

Sep 8, 2014 · The standards of the Saxon units were of a unique design, the most distinctive feature being the regimental border patterns. All of their flags bore the crowned and wreathed royal cipher "FAR" on one side, and the arms of Saxony on a mantle on the reverse. This regiment's border pattern has red, yellow and green

Aug 25, 2024 · In 1810, the Saxon army undertook major reforms aimed at improving the drilling, logistics, and recruitment of the army. Additionally, the new flags and uniforms ordered several years prior for each battalion were issued, though some regiments were disbanded and did not receive these colours.

Source: Ströhl 1897. The white-green bicolour of Saxony was adopted by a royal decree on 16 June 1815. These colours already had some tradition in Saxony.

From 1806-1815, Saxony used a bicolour of black over yellow. But it did coincide with the flag of Austria, Saxony's neighbour at that time, and in 1815 a bicolour of white over green was adopted. The bicolour was abolished in 1935, under the reforms of the Third Reich.
