Oak Hill is a mansion and plantation located in Aldie, Virginia that was for twenty-two years a home of Founding Father James Monroe, the fifth U.S. President.

Nov 1, 2013 · Stretching out across 1,200 fertile acres, Oak Hill today is one of the only privately owned early presidential residences in the country. As such, current owners Tom and Gayle DeLashmutt have not only worked to honor the Monroe history, but also to create a hospitable and cherished family home.

Oak Hill was the Loudoun County, Virginia home of James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States. He lived there during his presidency and in retirement. The last of the Revolutionary War generation to hold the office of Chief Executive, James Monroe presided over an expanding nation from 1817 to 1825.

Built 1820-23, for James Monroe (1758-1831), 5th President of the United States, and his wife Elizabeth Kortright (1768–1830). It was the Monroes primary residence until 1830 and today it is one of the only privately-owned early presidential residences in the United States.

Located in Aldie, Virginia, Oak Hill Estate served as the long-time home of the fifth president of the United States, James Monroe. Monroe inherited the 2,000 acre plantation in 1808 and began construction on the Oak Hill that stands today in 1820 while he was still president, with Thomas Jefferson drawing the interior plans for Oak Hill.
