The Robinson Class B2 / B19 (GCR Class I) "Sir Sam Fay" 4-6-0s. Robinson built these locomotives in 1912-13 for hauling express passenger services. They were not a great success and were quickly moved to secondary express services. Classified as B2 by the LNER, they were reclassified as B19 in 1945 to make room for the Thompson B2 class.

Originally introduced to Britain in 1894 for freight haulage, 4-6-0 locomotives ("Ten-Wheelers" in American railroad jargon) became the predominant type for express and mixed traffic duties. By 1948 4-6-0s in Britain were outnumbered only by 0-6-0s and 0-6-0Ts, and British Railways built more 4-6-0s than any other type.
