When the energy barrier for rotation is high to prevent averaging (fast rotation), you can see that the two methyl groups are non-equivalent: one is trans to the C-H, and the other is cis to it. This is a very common characteristic of many amide-containing molecules. The energy barrier to rotation is highly dependent on steric interactions.
