Jan 4, 2010 · A good blues tele should have pickups that are slightly hotter than a twangy country music setup. Mine has an ash body, fat Nocaster neck with rosewood board, Fender Twisted Tele neck pickup and SD Jerry Donahue bridge, and puts out a fat tele tone.

Sep 2, 2006 · As far as pickups I have direct experience with, the Fralin Steelpole. Definitely heavier than a Blues Special. The SK T-90 or Harmonic Design pickup which is P-90-like would likely be good contenders, too, but I don't have direct experience with them, and some of the feedback on the HDs is that they don't sound as Tele-like.

Jun 9, 2018 · For rock or blues tones, you really don't need different pickups. just set your Tele up with 11s or 12s, tune down a half step, pick the right tube amp -- and stand back. Edit: You know, come to think of it, you really don't need special pickups for country tones. Just about any single-coil Tele pickups will do, because that's what country is.

They are both legit Don Mare is the Jedi of vintage Tele pickups. Those pickups changed over the early years, and Don nails them all. Ask him about a vintage tele pickup, and he'll probably ask you what year.

Jun 12, 2006 · I've tried only the Blues set, which I love. I've got them in a partscaster strat with Clapton boost electronics. Without the boost in use, and through Vox and Bad Cat amps, it makes the kinds of sounds that Tom Petty and Mike Campbell made with strats, which is what I want to sound like. It's a fantastic sounding guitar.

I'm very happy with the Fender nocaster 51 pickups, and I wonder if I'll go for Fender 51 Nocaster, or for boutique pickups. So I would like to find similar pickups with vintage sound, with the typical sound of the Tele, but not brighter than the Fender Nocaster.
