The 37th Bomb Squadron is part of the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. It operates Rockwell B-1 Lancer aircraft providing strategic bombing capability. The squadron is one of the oldest in the United States Air Force, its origins dating to 13 June 1917, when the 37th Aero Squadron was organized at Kelly Field , Texas.

The 37th Bomb Squadron is home to the B-1B Lancer, ready to carry out the mission of the 28th Bomb Wing. Col. Tony Beat, 28th Bomb Wing vice commander; Maj. Clay Culver and Kirk Cakerice, 37th Bomb Squadron; and Capt. Gary Everett, 37th BS, died in the Sept. 19 B-1B crash near Alzada, MT.

The 37th Squadron was formed in May 1913 at Kelly Field, Texas, being based in France during WW I. In 1935 became an Attack Squadron, based in Langley, flying the A-8 and the A-17. In 1940 became the 37th Bombardment Squadron, flying the B-18 "Bolo" and the B-19.

Twin-engine light bomber and ground attack aircraft, served from WWII to several Cold War conflicts. A range of guns that could be loaded made it a dangerous ground-attack platform. • The 37th earned its Tiger name in the Korean war by their excellence at “hunting at night, like tigers."
