Inspired by the inherent emotional feeling that resonates when moving into the ground, the design uses elevation change to create a unique spatial experience and physical separation for the conflicting visitor body.

With aid by CMS modeling and past wave analysis, a physical model was built to study how waves could help disperse dredge sediment along the bar. Physical model tests were used to assess performance of different erodible forms under various wave environments.

To develop the Siltcatcher design, a physical hydrodynamic model of the Bonnet Carré Spillway and western Lake Pontchartrain was constructed from high-density urethane foam. The model was used to explore flow patterns induced by different structure configurations.
