HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Some Western North Carolina schools announced some class schedules due to road conditions on Thursday. Avery County Schools will operate on a one-hour delay and Macon County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay.

The NWS Blacksburg VA issued a wind advisory at 2:08 p.m. on Tuesday valid from 6 p.m. until Wednesday 4 a.m. The advisory is for Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga counties.

Some school systems in Western North Carolina are closed Monday, Jan. 13, due to winter weather impacts. Avery County Schools: Closed, optional teacher workday.

It comes after a winter storm brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to north Georgia on Friday. Some ice is still visible as it continues to thaw.

It has been several days since a winter storm left the Triad covered in snow and ice, but some cold nighttime temperatures have caused refreezing and other issues on many backroads throughout our viewing area.
