RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond region's water crisis ended on Saturday after Richmond Mayor Danny Avula said the Virginia Department of Health lifted the Boil Water Advisory for Richmond as well as Hanover, Henrico and Goochland counties.

Virginia officials lifted a boil-water advisory in Richmond on Saturday, days after problems caused by a winter storm hit the city’s century-old water production plant.

After days of disruption, residents across Richmond, Henrico, Hanover and Goochland can finally use their water without boiling it first.

The city of Richmond, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health, issued an immediate boil water advisory on Monday, urging all residents to conserve water and boil it before consumption until further notice.

The outage comes after a major winter storm caused widespread impacts across more than a dozen states, including hundreds of thousands of power outages across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic.

Officials said Tuesday morning that they hope pressure would be restored to the system by the afternoon. But the advisory will likely be in place for another 48 hours.
