Israeli Ambassador to Ireland Dana Erlich has accused the Irish president of "politicising" a Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration in Dublin on Sunday. The event marked 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz, and was held to remember victims of the Holocaust.

A small number of people were removed from a Holocaust commemoration event yesterday after standing in protest during a speech by President Michael D. Higgins.

In his speech, Higgins commemorated the Holocaust and lamented Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel as well as the civilian death toll in Gaza. He also wished for an end to what he called the “horrific loss of life and destruction which has taken place.”

Security staff forcibly removed a woman who objected to the president's remarks, while others who turned their backs on Higgins were asked to leave.
