Norwich City winger Borja Sainz has been suspended for six matches and fined 12,000 pounds ($14,749) for spitting at an opponent, the Championship side said on Friday.

The incident, which occurred during a Sky Bet Championship game on December 21 at the Stadium of Light, saw Sainz allegedly spitting at Sunderland defender Chris Mepham in the second half. Sainz has now been handed sanctions from an independent regulatory commission.
