The bird flu has been the culprit of bird deaths on farms across Indiana, but now it’s taken out a big population of sandhill cranes at Fish Lake. Residents can’t ignore it because they’ve seen a noticeable change from the typical migration season where cranes flood the sky.

But an Indiana Department of Natural Resources specialist says that case numbers should drop as temperatures warm.

There is no cure for the disease, which has a high mortality rate among birds but remains a low risk to people, according to the CDC
