For gas heaters, switch the gas valve to the "pilot" setting ... tap in your home (such as a sink) to help release pressure in the system, allowing water to flow more smoothly from the tank.
The pressure was so high that relief valves on water heaters blew off, as well as causing other plumping issues. The high pressure was the result of a plugged valve in the Woodhaven tank.
