But Nissan 's future electric SUV plans extend well beyond a third-gen Leaf; the company is planning on an EV "adventure-focused" SUV, it revealed on Wednesday, as part of an announcement of its plans to invigorate the Nissan lineup in the United States and beyond.

The Japanese automaker is dusting off its pioneering EV and giving it new technology and a new form factor. The Leaf will return as a crossover SUV with a Tesla plug (!!), casting off its outdated appearance that previously led to rumors of its inevitable demise.

A stylish new Leaf EV, now confirmed for the U.S., and hybrid and PHEV versions of the Rogue, are part of a more extensive product refresh for Nissan in more than a decade.
