The Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly could be a team in play to acquire Mikko Rantanen if the Carolina Hurricanes decide to move him.

With Mitch Marner’s contract situation unresolved, the Toronto Maple Leafs may have a contingency plan in place. According to NHL insider Nick Kypreos, the Leafs are considering targeting Mikko Rantanen as a potential Marner replacement if the winger leaves in free agency.

TSN: It’s still not known if Mikko Rantanen will want to partake in contract extension talks with the Carolina Hurricanes. Chris Johnston said that Rantanen’s camp are expected in the next few days to let the Hurricanes know how they’d like to proceed with things.
