Honduran President Xiomara Castro has reversed course on a decision to end a long-running extradition treaty after reaching an agreement with the United States.

Honduras reverses previous position that it would not extend the treaty, seen as a symbol of heavy-handed US presence.

Honduran President Xiomara Castro said Tuesday that her government reached an agreement with the United States to continue an extradition treaty. In a message posted on X, Castro said the pact will be carried out "objectively" and safeguarding the integrity of Honduras' armed forces.
