Detectives say they spoke to jail staff who oversaw a group of inmates assigned to work off-site at the Clermont County Animal Shelter.

The deputies restrained the man after he was “uncooperative and combative” while being booked into the jail, officials said. He was hospitalized after a “medical emergency” and died days later.

APSO reported that six men were apprehended while attempting to escape from Avoyelles DC-1 on Thursday, January 2.
