The crack you describe is at the apex of the vaulted area, which happens to be the highest point on the main-floor ceiling, but is also higher than the floor of the cab-over section.

All these forces plus the ceiling’s own weight will cause the rafter to deflect or bend slightly. And there’s one thing we all know about drywall. It cracks when it bends.

If the ceiling were plaster, the cracks would be spider web fashioned in several places. How and if the cracks can be repaired depends on what the drywall is attached to and how it is attached.
