The school began amassing the Sherlock Holmes Collections in 1974, buying collector James C. Iraldi's library of Holmes first editions — 160 volumes and a similar number of periodicals.

That collection came in 1974, and it included four copies of the very first time a Sherlock Holmes story appeared in print, in 1887, in the Beeton's Christmas Annual.
