The MBTA Communities Act, signed in January 2021, requires 177 towns and cities in the commonwealth to designate at least one zoning overlay district near public transportation that allows for multifamily housing as of right. There can’t be any age restrictions on the housing and the minimum density must be 15 units per acre.

Police are searching for a man who allegedly committed indecent assault and battery on an MBTA Route 86 bus. Transit police say the assault occurred in the vicinity of McGrath Highway in Somerville. The victim is a 15-year-old girl. Anyone with further information is urged to contact police at 617-222-1050.

The T said it is working with state and federal agencies to determine what caused a train to derail near Lechmere Tuesday.

The shuttle buses that replaced train service all day Wednesday have been phased out, the MBTA said in a social media post at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
