President Donald Trump has said his mass deportation effort will focus first on criminals. But in his first weeks in office, he has also unleashed Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents to go after virtually anyone in the country without authorization.

Nearly 100 people gathered in front of the Statehouse Saturday afternoon to protest ongoing ICE raids across the country.

“There is really no one left to save us but ourselves, which I think is really what’s driving these demonstrations,” said another Bellingham protester. President Trump campaigned on the pledge to carry out mass deportations. ICE has reported thousands of deportations across the country since Inauguration Day.

About 100 people gathered in front of the Whatcom County Courthouse in Bellingham on Sunday, February 9, 2025, to protest ICE and deportations of undocumented immigrants under the Trump administration.

ICE has been ordered to arrest between 1,200 and 1,500 people a day, conducting raids in at least three cities per week.
