Ann-Katrin Berger’s path to becoming the first-choice goalkeeper for the German women’s national team has been far from smooth.

By February 2018, just a few months after her diagnosis, she was back on the pitch. A year later she moved to Chelsea. Berger was now first-choice keeper at one of the top clubs in the women’s game.
