Our Mystery Plant (Mountain ash, Rowan, Sorbus americana) has a close relative in Europe, another species which looks very similar to ours. This species is beautiful all year long.
Where to Plant Mountain Ash Grown with a single trunk, it’s a good choice for a small specimen tree. It usually tops out between 15 and 20 feet tall, so it works well in smaller landscapes.
Your young tree should be watered regularly for its first couple years, until it becomes well established. Be sure to allow at least 10 feet of space between your mountain ash and surrounding plants.
The Korean mountain ash (Sorbus alnifolia) is a perfect example. It bursts with miniature white flowers in late spring, crimson berries in late summer, and red and yellow leaves in the autumn.
