TORONTO – Ford is recalling more than 25,000 cars and SUVs in Canada, out of a total of almost 423,000 in North America, because the power-assisted steering can fail while they’re being driven.
The new ASV60 Steering Valve can be used in conjunction with an orbitrol control in an electrohydraulic steering assembly, or in a fully electronically actuated steer-by-wire system.
However, the centerlink for manual steering is different from one for power steering. Unlike '65-'66, the power steering centerlink screws into the control valve, where it is pinned for security.
With the car lifted, we tried to adjust the steering by turning the adjusting nut with the engine running. The nut is located on the end of the power-steering control valve, under a cap.
