TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Tarrant County Commissioners approved a new electoral map, which will reshape the county’s governing body in favor of Republicans.

Things turned heated during a Fort Bend County commissioners court meeting over a discussion of precinct maps on Tuesday.

The letter dated May 23 calls the county’s five proposed precinct maps flawed and in violation of state and federal law.

Simmons, who represents Precinct 2, released the proposed maps Friday, all of which would dramatically alter the two Democrat-controlled precincts in the southern part of the county.

Critics of the five redistricting maps proposed by Public Interest Legal Foundation said the process has not been transparent or accessible.
