Over the weekend, the president reportedly gave exclusive comments to the New York Post in which he referenced recent conversations with New York Gov.

In an interview with the New York Post, the president indicated his intentions to “kill” the program but provided few details on his plans.

Trump reportedly said that if he ends up killing congestion pricing, he will do it in D.C. through the Federal Department of Transportation.

To pressure New York into ending the tolling plan, Trump revealed he would leverage federal transportation money, of which New York receives millions each year, the Post reports.

In Morning Consult's survey of 1,200 registered voters, 6 out of 10 New Yorkers say President Trump should allow the controversial tolling plan to continue. It has been about a month since congestion pricing went into effect, and driving around the city has gotten more expensive, but some drivers say they are having an easier time moving around.

It’s the first time since Trump took office that he has publicly acknowledged that he is considering repealing New York’s congestion pricing program, which took effect January 5. Newsday has previously reported that Hochul and Trump have discussed the future of the program and that Trump was considering stopping it.

Congestion pricing began on January 5. One month in, traffic is down, public buses are faster, and transit ridership is up.

Early data shows the program is reducing traffic, boosting subway use, improving travel times and even gaining support from those who pay the toll.
