Lindsey Vonn took it easier in downhill training a day after crashing for the first time of her World Cup comeback at age 40.

Lindsey Vonn said she is “good” and has only a few bruises after falling toward the end of a World Cup downhill training run on Thursday. The protective air bag that most downhill skiers wear inflated under Vonn’s racing suit to help soften her fall.

After six years of retirement, Olympic Gold Medalist and four-time World Cup Champion Lindsey Vonn makes a smashing return. Since unretiring, Vonn competed in her second World Cup this weekend and placed a satisfying sixth in the downhill event,

Swiss Olympic champions Lara Gut-Behrami and Corinne Suter placed fourth and fifth, respectively, and defending downhill World Cup champion Cornelia Huetter placed sixth. Jacqueline Wiles in seventh was the top American finisher.

Sofia Goggia is leading a World Cup downhill on the course that will host women’s skiing at next year’s Milan-Cortina Olympics, while Lindsey Vonn was in 20th on Saturday. It’s Vonn’s first race back in Cortina after nearly six years of retirement — at age 40 with a new titanium knee.
