An American Airlines flight out of New York City traveling to New Delhi, India was diverted on Sunday afternoon after a "security concern" prompted the detour.

A source familiar with the situation said the bomb threat towards Flight AA292, which was traveling from New York to New Delhi, was sent via email.

Two Italian military fighter jets flanked American Airlines Flight 292 as it arrived but the Federal Aviation Administration did not elaborate on what was the security issue aboard the plane.
