I have installed original-style alternators, internally regulated with remote sensing, and the one-wire type, and I have not had any of the problems that have been reported by others.

The silver line on the diode should face toward the No. 1 terminal. If that's still too complex, get the regulator from a 27-SI-series alternator found in trucks and install it in the 10-SI unit.
