New York City's Fifth Avenue filled with thousands of Greek-Americans and others on Sunday who attended the Greek Independence Day parade.

President Donald Trump celebrated Greek Independence Day at the White House on Monday with a proclamation declaring 204 years of "glorious Greek sovereignty and freedom."

The City of Aurora will also raise the flag of Greece at noon on Tuesday at One Aurora Plaza, 8 E. Galena Blvd. Tuesday also marks Greek Independence Day, March 25, which is celebrated around the world. The Greek national holiday commemorates the start of the War for Greek Independence in 1821.

At least three incidents disrupted this year’s Independence Day celebrations across different districts, drawing widespread criticism from civil society groups and war veterans.

The 55th Independence Day of Bangladesh was observed with a renewed call to realize the spirit of 1971. The struggle for equality, human dignity, and social justice that fueled the Liberation War remains a driving force in the nation’s ongoing movements.
