Emigrants of the British Isles took Common Brittonic with them to the European continent in regions like Brittany (France) where the ‘Neo-Brittonic’ language Breton is still spoken today.
Welcoming the island's inclusion on the map, Clare Barber MHK said it was "great" to have the sites connected. The areas featured on the new map cover 13% of the landmass of the British Isles.
In France, Breton is heard in Brittany. Amazing Maps outlined data from 2011 and 2007 in 2023. But more modern data suggests some positive change for the UK’s non-English languages.
