Starship is already part of the architecture for future Artemis missions, and its reusability and cost-effectiveness, if proven, would give it major advantages over the expensive, expendable SLS.

Credit: NASA ORLANDO, Fla. — A safety panel is calling on NASA to reassess to plans for upcoming Artemis missions, arguing that the agency is packing too many objectives into each mission.

If signed into law, the legislation would allocate an additional $6 billion to Artemis’ current mission architecture.

NASA will now target April 2026 for Artemis II, the first crewed Artemis mission around the moon, and mid-2027 for Artemis III, which is planned to land the first astronauts near the lunar South Pole.
