More than 1,700 Ohioans died by suicide in 2023, according to the Ohio Department of Health. The number of Ohioans who died by suicide decreased 1% in 2023, according to ODH’s 2023 Suicide Report.
"As expected, we have seen some shifts in disease activity and we are in what almost every year are the peak months of respiratory season," said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, director of the Ohio Department of Health.
For the first time in several years, there was a decline in the number of suicide deaths in Ohio. That’s according to the Ohio Department of Health’s Suicide Report. The latest numbers released by the state are from 2023 and they show a slight decrease from 2022.
In that single week 639 people in Ohio were admitted to the hospital which was a 3.23% increase from the previous week. Vanderhoff is also expected to release the 2023 Ohio Suicide Report, and that data has not been released as of yet.
