Mike Vrabel was believed to be a candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders’ vacant head coaching job. However, he was never interviewed by the organization because he reportedly told his former teammate—and Raiders minority owner—Tom Brady that he was going to New England, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Josh McDaniels is joining Vrabel’s coaching staff as New England’s offensive coordinator, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. A six-time Super Bowl champion as an assistant coach, McDaniels is best known as Bill Belichick’s longtime offensive playcaller.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the New England Patriots are set to hire Josh McDaniels as their next offensive coordinator. The 48-year-old— who interviewed with the franchise on Tuesday in Foxborough —has widely been considered the favorite since New England announced Mike Vrabel as their head coach last Sunday.
The Patriots have already gotten off to a fast start in the offseason as the first team to hire a new head coach. With Mike Vrabel now in place, they can get a head start on building the staff beneath him.
John Streicher will reunite with Mike Vrabel with the Patriots, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports. Streicher spent six seasons in Tennessee with Vrabel, serving as assistant to the head coach (2018-19), football development coordinator (2020-22) and director of football administration (2023).
