As with download speeds, the upload speed you need will depend on how you and members of your household use the internet. An upload speed of 2 to 10 Mbps is usually considered good.

In fact, if a gigabit subscriber checks the download speed of their phone or computer over WiFi, they might be clocking speeds anywhere from 300Mbps to 800Mbps and, potentially, much lower.

What determines how quickly and easily you can download that data -- as in, how good the streaming quality is, how fast the webpage and images load -- is your download speeds.

What is a good upload speed? While the FCC defines the minimum broadband benchmark as 100Mbps in download and 20Mbps in upload, we recommend you still aim for upload speeds higher than 20Mbps.
