Native to northeast Asia, emerald ash borers were first discovered in the U.S. in the early 2000s. They have since spread to over 30 states and killed millions of ash trees.

In 2024, EAB was confirmed in five new Texas counties and at two locations within Dallas city limits, including inside the Great Trinity Forest, which is estimated to be 40% ash trees.
