EDMONTON — Groat Road will be closed indefinitely and completion of the 102nd Avenue Bridge could be delayed a year after four steel girders buckled early Monday during installation at the project.
It was around 2:15 a.m. Monday and crews were installing the sixth of seven girders at the 102nd Avenue Bridge when the steel beams spanning across Groat Road began to bend before their eyes.
These girders for the bridge range in length from about 98 feet to about 61 feet and in weight from 27,300 pounds to 22,400 pounds, she added.
