Using a Novel Absolute Ontogenetic Age Determination Technique to Calculate the Timing of Tooth Eruption in the Saber-Toothed Cat, Smilodon fatalis. PLoS ONE, 2015 DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0129847 ...
One suggested way of avoiding canine displacement and encouraging the eruption of the adult canine is to remove a child's baby canine tooth at around 10 to 13 years, under local anaesthetic.
The canine (or fang) teeth (fangs) are the most commonly affected, but baby incisors and premolars may also be abnormally retained. Several problems can stem from this condition.
Other teeth erupt sequentially, moving towards the back of the arch. The exception of this is the first molars, which typically erupt before the eruption of canines also known as cuspids.
