After more than a year of severe rainfall deficiencies in some parts of South Australia, the state as a whole has had its wettest July in 27 years.

It’s likely the high annual rainfall Australia experienced in 2024 was in part due to warmer ocean temperatures. Coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef is caused by hotter seas.
