Two scientists who used physics to help develop methods used to build modern machine learning were honored with the 2024 Nobel Prize in the field.

Professor John Hopfield's recognition for how his physics works powers machine learning follows the introduction of a new department at the school that aims to facilitate, cultivate and elevate industry pursuits.

Hopfield, the Howard A. Prior Professor in the Life Sciences, Emeritus, and professor of Molecular Biology, emeritus, shares the 2024 Nobel Prize with Toronto's Geoffrey E. Hinton.
