Though the Palisades and Eaton fires are smaller, they rank high in structures burned. Combined, they would equal the second-most destructive California wildfire in history, with more than 9,000 structures burned, according to early Cal Fire estimates. A more detailed analysis of the total number of destroyed structures is still underway.

The California insurance commissioner issued a mandatory one-year moratorium on non-renewals and cancellations to protect Southern California residents affected by the recent fires. Mahsa Saeidi reports.

To the northeast, the Eaton Fire erupted in the Angeles National Forest, claiming at least five lives in the suburb of Altadena and damaging or destroying a likely 6,672 buildings as of early Thursday morning, according to the satellite analysis.

The deadly wildfires roaring through Los Angeles County entered a fourth day on Friday. At least 10 people have been killed, about 150,000 are under mandatory evacuation orders and more than 10,000 homes and other structures have been destroyed,

The Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills follows other blazes in the L.A. area, including the Palisades and Eaton fires, that have displaced tens of thousands.
