PHNOM PENH: A Brand-New Kun Khmer promotion is set to stage its first tournament this weekend, with the “Cambodia Kun Khmer KKIF” event scheduled for Dec 10.

PHNOM PENH: The long-awaited Nov 5 matchup between Kun Khmer legend Prum Samnang and Myanmar-Canadian boxer Dave Leduc has become the most anticipated fight of the year.

"Kun Khmer is not Muay Thai, like judo is not karate. There might be similarities but Kun Khmer has no recognised federation," IFMA general secretary Stephan Fox told AFP.

The Kun Khmer association has fewer than 40 member countries and has not held at least three international events, Fox said. "So Kun Khmer is not qualified [to be a sport at the SEA Games]," Fox said.

The International Federation for Kun Khmer (KKIF), the Cambodian combat sport, is working with its National Olympic Committee (NOCC) to seek International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognition.
