Tennis elbow is almost always the result of injury from repeated action, such as swinging a tennis racquet or, in Stanton’s case, a baseball bat, said Dr. Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas, an orthopedic surgeon at New York University Langone Health.

The New York Yankees are already dealing with an injury to one of their top power hitters. Giancarlo Stanton has soreness in both elbows and hasn't swung a bat in three to four weeks, he revealed Monday morning.

Stanton said he dealt with the condition, which is in both elbows, most of last season — including in October, when he was by far the Yankees’ best offensive performer as they reached the World Series. He said he has not swung a bat in the last “three to four weeks.” It is not clear when he will begin doing so.

Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is one of a few players not at full strength early into spring training.

The pain in both of Stanton's arms is "probably something that's chronic," according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
