Russia's remote Krasheninnikov volcano, dormant for roughly 600 years, erupted overnight in Kamchatka peninsula in the country's far east, just days after a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck the region.

The Krasheninnikov volcano’s first eruption in centuries is believed to have been triggered in part by the massive earthquake a few earlier.

Russia’s Krasheninnikov Volcano erupted for the first time in recorded history, sending ash 6 km high. No settlements are threatened. The eruption follows a recent major earthquake in Kamchatka.
