The Edmonton Police Service said in a statement that West Branch patrol officers responded at 1:45 p.m local time on Thursday to a welfare call in the north parkade at West Edmonton Mall.

They were in the mall's parking garage when the man apparently stood up through the sunroof. He was struck by a concrete beam as the car passed underneath a ramp, police say.
