WASHINGTON: The United States will impose a tariff of about 100 per cent on semiconductor chips imported from countries not producing in America or planning to do so, President Donald Trump said.

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said the United States will impose a tariff of about 100% on imports of semiconductors but offered up a big exemption - it will not apply to companies that are manufacturing in the U.S. or have committed to do so.

President Trump threatened on Wednesday to impose a 100 percent tariff on foreign semiconductors, in an effort to bring supply chains for electronics back to the United States.
